It's best to keep budgerigars in pairs in a large cage.Make sure that the bars of the cage are horizontal, so they can climb up and down these.Toys specially for parakeets are also highly appreciated by most other birds, as well as a bird bath.
A good seed mix as a basic diet for your budgerigar
For budgerigars, you can choose a high-quality mix of different seeds as the main diet. Make sure this also contains minerals and vitamins or provide these through a concentrated food.
They also always need access to grit. They should be given some foxtail millet now and then too (they love this!) and some fresh fruit or vegetables.
Budgerigars drink very little, but of course do need fresh water every day.
Budgerigars are relatively easy to breed. If you have a pair, you can provide them with a nest box for small parakeets with a thick layer of sawdust on the floor. Once they get used to the box, the female will lay an average of four to six eggs, which hatch after just three weeks. The young birds remain in the box for more than four weeks and are fed by the parents a little longer once they have fledged.
Everyone likes to treat their pet sometimes. But for pets that live in a restricted space, it's important not to just constantly give them snacks. So it's no problem to treat your budgie to something tasty now and then when they've been good, could do with a little something extra or to reward them when you're training them.
